How a dive day runs

01

Morning briefing

Your guide reads the tide table and picks the slack-window sites. Beginners get moved off very-strong pinnacles here.

02

Boat transfer

Day boat or phinisi to the first mooring. North and Central sit close; South Komodo is liveaboard territory.

03

2–3 guided dives

Small groups, surface intervals between dives, reef hooks where the current earns them. Nitrox for certified divers.

04

Return & debrief

Log the dive, review what showed up, set expectations for tomorrow. No two days read the same.

Do I need an Advanced certification?

Not for everything. Open Water divers can enjoy Central sites like Manta Point, Siaba and Mawan. The strong pinnacles — Batu Bolong, Crystal Rock, Castle Rock, the Cauldron — are genuinely Advanced-only because of current and depth. The Match Board flags this for your exact certification.

When are the mantas actually there?

Reef mantas aggregate at Central Karang Makassar around Dec–Feb and again Jul–Sep; southern Manta Alley peaks Dec–Feb. They are wild animals — we mark peak and possible months honestly and never guarantee a sighting.

Is Komodo diving safe for beginners?

Yes, on the right sites at the right tide. Beginners dive the mild, sheltered sites with a guide reading the current, and we keep them off very-strong drift sites. A Discover Scuba or Open Water course is the honest entry point.

Day trip or liveaboard?

Day trips cover North & Central sites and suit shorter stays. A liveaboard safari is the sensible way to reach South Komodo (Manta Alley) and dawn dives at the rocks.

How cold is the water?

North and Central run a warm 26–29 °C, so a 3 mm suit is fine. The south upwells colder at 20–24 °C, so plan a 5 mm. Figures are indicative as of 2026 and read fresh on the day.
