Honest Limits: What Nitrox Will Not Do
Nitrox is routinely mis-sold, so let us be precise about what you are buying:
- It does not let you dive deeper. The opposite: EANx32 has a maximum operating depth of roughly 33–34 m at a partial pressure of 1.4 ata — shallower than recreational air limits. The deep sections of Castle Rock are planned around that ceiling, not through it.
- It is not a substitute for current skills. Komodo’s advanced sites demand drift experience, negative entries, and good buoyancy. Nitrox extends your clock; it does not hold your position in a 5-knot stream.
- It does not remove decompression risk. It reduces nitrogen loading at a given depth and time. Diving nitrox on an air computer setting adds conservatism; riding nitrox limits to the edge does not.
